Hikers tell of seeing a dark handsome figure dressed in all black standing on the stones at the top of the waterfall dancing to and fro at sunset while playing a slow sad song on a fiddle. They say it is the devil himself who stands atop the falls which plummet down into rocky cliffs and foaming white rushing water. As darkness closes in, his fiddle moans a mournful dirge into the night.
Aside from the legend, the Devil's Hop-yard State Park in Connecticut offers a wide range of beautiful sights to see. From a sense red shaded forest which sweetly smells of pine needles, to steep rocky cliffs overlapped by gorgeous waterfalls, grassy flowered paths along side gentle trickling streams, and a beautiful lake at the base of the falls, this park is an incredible place to visit for those who adore the earth's natural beauty. Myself and my adventurous mother ventured to this place together not fully expecting all that we found. I was amazed by the beautiful scenery and was not disappointed by the hike.
