The Tallest Peak in CT

At 2,316 feet above sea level, Bear Mountain is the tallest peak in Connecticut. Located in Salisbury, CT, this hiking trail intersects with the Appalachian Trail. From the roadside, a path called the Undermountain Trail leads to the Appalachian Trail's Rica Junction running North-to-South. This 6.1 mile loop took me roughly four hours from start to finish. I enjoyed spectacular views from the summit where a small stone platform boasts a historic plaque. The path is steep, rocky, and buggy but I loved the scenery. Fresh streams of ice-cold spring water intersect the path along the way and were a great way to cool off in the heat of the day. If you choose to visit this incredible location you should:

1: Wear sturdy hiking boots.

2: Pack plenty of water.

3: Bring bug spray or mosquito nets unless you visit in the winter.

4: Watch out for bears, snakes, and ticks!

5: Go before you visit! There are no bathrooms or porta-toilets.

6: Bring a baggie for trash, there are no trash cans.
