The Academy

The Cadet Police Academy was one of the most difficult but also the most character building experiences of my life. It tests one's endurance, strength, perseverance, and will power. One must be willing to be pushed down and still have the determination to rise up again. Obey orders to become an excellent machine in union with those surrounding you, but never allow your spirit to break under the strain. During the struggle of this experience, in my free time I wrote a song to explain daily life in the Academy. These are the lyrics to that song, which I know by heart:

We wear grey t-shirts and grey shoes with grey ties,

we have dark grey lines under our eyes,

We all dress right dress in a line of dark grey,

we're just a group of guys and gals who want to lead the way.

Turn to the left, turn to the right,

you're a rolling bulldozer when you keep your line tight.

Carry your flag and hold it high with pride,

through blood sweat and tears we keep the flag at our side.

Step out of the way, can't do nothing to me,

Just another day at the academy.

Four AM and you're ready to go,

Doing what you're told to because you're told to do so.

Too many push ups to count as they shout in my ear,

Gritting and grinding as I'm fighting back tears.

But I'm working hard to be the best I can be,

Just another day at the Academy.

Twelve O'clock noon and I'm light on my feet,

Grab a bottle of water got no time to eat,

Then it's back to work they won't leave us alone,

Gotta prove that I'm the best to prove I'm bad to the bone.

But we stick to the task because we all agree,

It's just another day at the academy.

Almost midnight and it's been a bad day,

My arms are sore from pushing and I dont want to play,

Left right left right left to the right,

Keep in rhythm or I'm gonna start a fight,

I'm trying my best to keep myself in control,

But the minute you provoke me Lord save your soul,

I wouldn't want to be you when you're running from me,

Just another day at the academy,

Lord save me from this place Lord save me from the DI

I'd bet a hundred pushups he's the devil in disguise,

When he shouts in my ear I smell sulfur on his breath,

Lord please save me from the valley of the shadow of death.

But I'll walk through the fires of hell to set myself free,

That's just how it is at the Academy.
