The struggle of the journey proves the value of the destination.
At least, it does in the case of Cameron Park's massive stone staircase called Jacob's Ladder leading up to a paradise high on the hillside overlooking a field of wild flowers. This hilltop Olympus is a massive stone amphitheater with a large blue pool and a flowing fountain in the heart of it. Under the blazing sun, this fountain was a welcome resting point while the view of the flowery meadow and the forest beyond made the scenery feel unreal in a sense. The isolation of the spot due to the extreme intensity of the staircase made the secluded spot a haven for weary climbers. Only those truly dedicated to the task of climbing will reach this oasis.
Cameron Park offers more than just the climb to Olympus. There is a zoo, hiking trails, several playgrounds for kids, a picnic area, a miniature water park, and a walking path along a beautiful river. There was so much more to see than what we had time to explore, which warrants several return trips for those willing to make the drive to Waco, Texas.
All in all, this park was beautiful, the climb up Jacob's Ladder was a test of strength and resolve, and the beautiful scenic overlook of the flowery meadow from the pools feeling like a place where the ancient Greek gods would reside make this an unforgettable place. If you have the determination to reach the top of the staircase, I recommend experiencing Cameron Park for yourself.
