I have a reputation for being a thrill seeker, so it should come as no surprise that for my twentieth birthday I would want to do something memorable and exciting. So, on September twenty third of 2017 my father and I signed up for the Rugged Maniac.
The rugged maniac is a 5k race, but unlike any other. Along the path, runner have to climb through barbed wire, drag themselves along a rope in a narrow muddy pipe into a pool of murky water under more barbed wire, slide down a massive slope, swing across mud pits, carry massive sand bags up a hillside, and even jump through fire! Near the end of the race I tripped and accidentally sprained my ankle which took several months to recover. But it still remains one of the most exciting experiences of my life. A true test of strength, determination, and perseverance. The best part was being able to run the race with my dad. Even though I outran him, I was proud to be facing the same obstacles with him and meet him with a fist bump at the finish line.
So regardless if I got hurt, or how fast we ran, or how well we conquered the obstacles, one fact still remains. I earned the right to boldly say without a doubt:
I am a Rugged Maniac.
